Unhappy Network help

Hello,

At home, I have 2 computers ( ex. C1 and C2).
Both computers are:
- connected to the same switch;
- member of the same WORKGROUP;
- have specific IP (ex. C1 XXX.XXX.XXX.1, C2 XXX.XXX.XXX.2), which are dynamically attributed by the server in function of the Network Address (MAC address);
- connected to the internet through a server which is in a different place;
- have only one network adapter
- have WinXP Pro.

My problem is that I want to be able to connect to my other computer regardless of server status, in the same time not to alter the settings which I have for the network and internet.

Thank you.

Is that a domain server that you log into ? Do you log into a domain account? Does both computer log into the domain account ? Do you log into the either computer with Administrative privileges ?

These question will help us with an answer.

Cheers

Hy snowmonkey,

First I would like to thx u for the reply.
The server is ISP server.
I think that it is a DNS server however, all I want is to be able to share documents between my 2 computers even when the server is down (in actual configuration I can’t connect to my other computer –share documents- when the server is down).

I can log in to my either computer with administrative right or user right. I use ftp connection or network mapped drive between those to which work fine when the server is working but does not work when the server is down.

I hope that my answer help you to help me .

Thx.
