It's Windows Xp SP2 with all the updates after SP2 . They're all available for download.

Only way I know to install WMP, is to download it from Microsoft.com

OR, do this, it might work.

Control Panel -
Add / Remove programs -
Add / Remove Windows components -
Go down the list and find Windows Media Player, if its in there, put a tick next to it and click "Next" this should instal WMP.

No luck with that.

Tried every version of Windows Media Player installer from 7.1 to 10 and nothing. same error . Windows Media Technologies sucks.

I found it!
I got your post as results of my support search, but I found to fix it:

1. Run the setup of WMP10 as you regularly do to get the error msg.
2. Once you get the error msg, DO NOT CLICK CANCEL. Instead go to Start --> Run and type "%TEMP%" (without "").
3. Find the folder there named "IXP000.TMP" or similar. Open it...
4. You will know that it holds the contents of the Windows Media Player setup because you should find the "wmplayer.exe" file in there (among many other)
5. Copy all the files in that folder into another folder. Close the "IXP000.TMP" folder.
6. Go the new folder where you copied all files and double-click on the "wmsetsdk.exe" file... and follow the instructions (you could get "download msgs")...

I hope this helps you!

That's it--finally!!!

I've been looking for that work-around for about a week now and finally found it and it worked. Thanks. other posts around the net alluded to it, but never actually said to go to the "%temp%" file to find the necessary files. Thanks again.
