Sound puzzle

Computer: Portable Toshiba Portege 3480CT
OS: XP SP2

First, after instalation, default sound controler was Intel bla bla bla. I had the sound, all players worked fine but didn't have Volume taskbar icon and system sound's wan't play.
I check ControlPanel/ Sounds and Audio Devices, check place volume icon on the taskbar but still nothing. Sounds tab give me sound scheme but any system sound still can't play--the Play sound button remain grey.

Then, I download existing driver from Toshiba website, instalation give me Yamaha sound controler, everything on the Device Manager is fine, no conflits, all players worked fine (Windows Media player, mp3, etc) but still don't have Volume taskbar icon and system sounds don't work.
I start test in MSN Messenger for Audio, everythig work fine, but can't reproduce sound when I received it from someone, notife don't work also.

So, bootom line is: no Volume taskbar icon and no system sound, all players worked fine............

also try running the belarc free software and find out the name and very long number of your mother board
