Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close

Every time i try to run a video file i recieve the message
"Windows Media Player has encountered a problem and needs to close "
followed immediately by the message
"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close."

After clicking for more information all i get is

AppName: explorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00000000

AppName: wmplayer.exe AppVer: 9.0.0.2980 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00000000

I of course run Windows XP (pro) and these exact same video files worked fine this morning... I came home and found that they were no longer working.

To resolve this issue, register the correct Wmpui.dll file again:
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type the following command, and then click OK:
regsvr32 %SystemRoot%\system32\wmpui.dll

You receive a message that is similar to:
DllRegisterServer in C:\WINNT\system32\wmpui.dll succeeded.

Click OK, and then start Windows Media Player again.

I tried that method and it didnt fix anything if anyone can please help me it would be greatly appreciated.

hi i had this problem and want i did was i installed quicktime again and all was well so try that.carl
