XP User profile not found loads default?
Hi, could anyone help with this problem?
My friend had a new pc and wanted all the music off her old one transfered to the new one. So I thought the easiest way would be to just plug in the old HD to the new comp.
Inside were the two IDE cables from the motherboard. One end to end going straight to the master HD and one going to the cd drive with a spare connecter. I just plugged the old HD into this spare connecter.
I booted up the system, not really thinking about this being the first boot of the computer. It seemed to boot up fine, new user accounts created and booting from the master HD as expected. However it seems to have created the user profiles on the old HD, after transfering the files I wanted to the new drive, turned the computer off, removed the old drive and booted again; I reach the windows screen where XP would normally ask to select an account and get the error message along the lines of "no user profile, windows will load default profile, error: device not found (maybe ready)" then a countdown. After the countdown it boots to a blank screen, if I ctrl alt del, it lists all the normal programs incl explorer as running but I can really do anything.
How can I start the system so user profiles are found on the new HD where I would've expected it to be anyway. Any ideas??
