Screen turns black after starting high graphics games

Hi, I'm a new member here. My computer configuration is-

Pentium IV, 2 GHz
512 MB RAM,
64 MB AGP card,
30 GB Hardsisk.

I use two operating systems - Windows XP and Windows98 se.

I tried top play few high graphics games which match my configuration on XP. But whenever I run the game the screen turns black, I can hear the sound and can feel that he game is running, but I can't see anything. It happened with games like- moment of silence, star wolves etc. The new game The movies allowed to run that game with lower graphics configuration. First time when I run it it turns black as usual. But after running it under lower graphics configuration, I could see the screen. I can run all these games on windows 98. But all games don't work on 98, you know.

I bought a new graphics card 2/3 days ago. But the problem is still occuring. I'll be glad if anyone can help. Thank you.

What was the new card you bought? What wattage is your power supply? How many amps on the 12v rail? What resolutions are you using? Can you try a different monitor?

The card is Nvidia GetForce2 MX/MX 400. My power supply is 220 V. Sorry I'm not quite clear with this Q- How many amps on the 12v rail? My resulation is 800x600 and color is 32 bit true color. I don't have any other monitor. Thanks for asking.

I would suggest first off that your power supply is inadequate, what driver are you using for your MX ?

The drivers are NVDISP.drv, nvmini.vxd, vmm32.vxd.

I'm repeating, most of these games work properly on window 98.se.

What Forceware version? 81.98?

Also are these older games? Are they compatible with XP?

I think you should install directX9.0 ... Try that and I'm almost sure its gonna solve the problem... You need some other Drivers so your video could support the graphics....

?????

Is that in XP or 98?? It doesn't even look like a driver version, where did you install it from? the video card cd? Did you change drivers when you put the new card in?

Here's mine for comparison, I'm running the 83.90 beta (hence no digital signature) as you can see it is displayed as 8.3.9.0, yours isn't even the same format I'll wait for your reply, you may want update your driver at Nvidia if you haven't already.

Guess what? I'm such a stupid, I was using 98 when I replied it, so I wrote the version from 98's device manager. Just give me some minutes. I'm giving you the version from XP.

Sorry for that stupitidy!

The version is 4.3.5.1.
I forgot to tell you that I'm using this graphics card for 2 weeks only. Before that I was using built-in graphics card. This problem was still there when I was using the previous one.

Another problem is occuring since I install the Xp few days ago after formatting my drive. It's saying that error occuring while openning syshost.exe. This file is on system32 folder and in startup. I tried to diascble it from startup, but it's not working. Everytime it comes back on start up. And if any error occurs while working on XP a system shutdown message come saying that a problem was found in lsess.exe, so the Xp will turn off within 1 min and it turns off after 1 min. It's so disturbing. Can you say what I can do for this? It'll be a big help!

For starters you need to update your forceware driver 43.51 is positively ancient. Another point is the MX is also a dated card and may only be able to run these games at lower resolutions/ settings.

Check in your bios to ensure onboard video is disabled (this should happen automatically when you insert the new video card but in some older systems it may not)

As to your other problems it sounds like a corrupt windows installation, if you can boot into windows put your XP disk in the rom drive, cancel auto run, go to start > run, type in sfc /scannow (note the space between sfc and the / ) this will replace corrupt windows system files, if you can not boot to windows normally boot to safe mode and run sfc /scannow or failing that run a repair install.

This last little gem of information makes me wonder if you are trying to run things at settings your hardware is not capable of supporting.
