Address bar weirdness

I'll call this a tip, with a question.

I use the address bar all the time. You can turn it on by right clicking on the taskbar and selecting Toolbars-->Address. Then you can type in URL's (google.com) and windows commands (like "cmd" or "notepad"). It's pretty slick. You can even make your own commands by placing a shortcut on the desktop, renaming it to something short (like "iis") then typing that into the address bar.

Here's what's weird: every so often it just doesn't work right. I'll type "notepad" into the address bar and it will pull up a browser window that's pointing to "http://notepad" which is of course empty.

So does anyone know why this happens?

Thats wired cos' it should open the notepad and thats it.... have you try closing and opening the adress bar ???

Also can you clean your System and the registry to see if anything changes?

the notepad is on X:/Windows/ .exe and there is where windows should be pointing at... Make sure you have no URL link in that folder as notepad... and make sure that notepad is working propely and haven't been moved

Taskbar address bar won't run programs

I am having this same problem. The address bar on the taskbar was working fine until this morning. Now every time I try to run an application (like notepad) it opens it in a browser (http://notepad). If I type in the full path (c:\windows\notepad.exe) it runs fine. I have checked my system path in control panel, and it does include C:\windows. I have checked the address bar on other computers and they are working correctly. Also, if just go start->run and type notepad it opens correctly.

Any ideas?
