Unhappy Windows XP Proff - Realtek HD sound chip - no sound

Hi,
I just made a new Desktop for myself, its a P4 2.8GHz, D101ggc mother board, Realtek HD sound chip (onboard). Problem i am facing is that there is no sound output, eventhough the drivers have been installed properly.
I installed XP service pack2 as required to install the drivers. then i executed a KB888111WINSP2.exe file (from mother board driver CD) which is a patch i guess. Then i installed the sound driver. But there is no sound.

following error is logged when the patch update (KB888111.exe) is executed:

0.657: Hotfix started with following command line:
1.110: In Function TestVolatileFlag, line 11660, RegOpenKeyEx failed with error 0x2

You don't give the motherboard name and make, but if an Intel chipset board, the the Intel INF Software Installation Utility chipset driver needs to be installed before any other drivers.

Hope this helps

Unhappy

I did what you suggested, i uninstalled all the drivers and then installed Intel INF Software Installation Utility chipset first then audio driver. But still the same problem, the earlier stated files are found missing.

Is there any specific path that SP2 must extract its files to..right now its different from primary C: drive.

I am almost getting to format my machine and reinstall everything. Only one thing bothers me what if the same problem remains.

Please help...

Found the board at Intel, this is the only board that Intel do with a 3rd party chipset, go here to Intel http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...4&submit=Go%21

install No:5 the INF driver and RESTART your comp
then install No:2 the Audio driver.

Don't forget the Restore Point just in case

Hope this helps

Perhaps I overlooked this, but what does Device Manager say? Do you have a device that isn't recognized?
