Hi Aerox,

My mouse seems to be resolved... I did two things at the same time so unfortunately I cannot tell you which of them deserves the credit. Logically, I'd guess that it was the first of the two things that I'll mention, though I actually believe it was more tied to the latter.. First, I thought I had all of my drivers up to date, (and may have), though I downloaded and reinstalled them... Second, I had a large number of fonts installed, and thus I reduced the number of installed fonts to around 200... I hope one of these things will work for you, and I hope that you'll come back and post here to let us know. If neither do, come back as well and I will try and help in any way I can... Good luck to you...: )

Ok now i think i have tried everything. First i installed a clean copy of windows xp x64 edition. That didn´t work. Then i updataed my setpoint software to 3.10 so now i should be fully updated, then i enabled mouse legacy from BIOS, it can´t be the font problem because i haven´t installed any fonts. I have a logitech mx610 mouse, i know it operates at 2,4ghz and i also have a router that operates at 2,4ghz on the way to the reciver, so i removed the router and still it lags and freezes. As my cpu usage goes up my mouse freezes more.

nvidia card

Has this been resolved ??? .....

I just began experiencing these issues with the mouse freezing after I upgraded to an NVidia 6 series card today. I notice that at least 3 of the posters had an NVidia card ... .possibly related?

I have tried optical usb, optical PS/2, and roller PS/2 meeces and same deal.

I also seemed to recall having this problem when I updated the drivers to my previously installed NVidia Geforce FX 5200. I seemed to fix the issue then by rolling back the drivers to the ones that came with the card / cd.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do next, but i'm researching the vid card. For me, the problem seems to occur mostly when gaming.

further to above, I've found a link that indicates nvidia drivers and gives a workaround by disabling hardware acceleration on the trouble shooting tab in display settings. .....

... I tried moving the slider both one and two notches to the left, both resolved the freezing pointer, but the pointer was still flashing when playing c&c generals, so there is still more work to do on this problem.

for those having this issue, and using NVidia cards, there is more info here;

http://forums.computeractive.co.uk/t...rt=15&tstart=0

I "resolved" the frozen pointer issue by rolling back my vs 8 drivers to the 7.8.0.1 driver found here ....

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_78.01.html

I still consider this a temporary fix and hope that the bug in the later drivers is fixed by NVidia

I read all of the posts and my computer is doing the same thing! I am also using windows XP and my mouse and keyboard are both chieftec wireless. I agree with r0nni3 it seems like your using an invisible mouse...and I tried what samiti said, turning on your mouse cursor trails does help alot...hopefully someone can find a solution to this!

Unhappy mouse freezes - fix it by unplugging & plugging in usb

it's all a lot of nonsense and hard to believe there is no explanation on how to solved this problem. cursor locks up intermittently without associable preceding causative event. all i have to do to unlock it is take out and replug the mouse usb plug. doesn't matter which usb port the mouse is in, same problem occurs. started after i changed some services from manual or automatic to disabled. but i've returned all the services to automatic and actually replaced the mouse drivers on my gateway running winxp to their originals from the cabs and still after a reboot after deleting all the prefetch files, mouse not fixed. this is a software glitch, a corruption of some unknown driver ... but which one and how to fix it is the question? any thoughts? i find it hard to believe noone knows the answer to this problem when the occurence is so frequent.

same problem: cursor freezes but works in background

I agree with previous posters that this seems to be an annoying/impossible to fix problem. Same thing here. What happens is the mouse never works well to begin with, it seems to want to jump around while you are navigating (with a window open or not). Eventually the actual cursor/pointer will freeze in a certain postion, yet the mouse will continue to work behind the scenes. Ive become a pro at using the keyboard to navigate around, or patiently trying to get lucky and hit where i want. The freeze usually occurs when opening a new application/window/webpage, but not always. Virus/malware/riskware/spyware all good. third mouse ive installed. this one is a DYNEX optical. Bought this stupid computer theny didnt give me an XP disk to re-install, but from what ive heard that solves nothing anyway. Has anyone figured out this bug?? Costing me patience, time and money (poker). Please help. Anyone who fixes it ill transfer them some cash on a poker site !!! (:

I also re-installed all my drivers. No help. I heard somewhere though that WIndows XP has some drivers that will confict with your mouse drivers or something to that tune. Im not sure if i have that NDivai card or whatever. But Ill be checking.

Frozen Mouse Unthaws.
It all started when I tried to uninstall Adobe (various packages). What a mess that was! Adobe tenaciously refused to let go. Then my mouse froze right in the middle of editing Java source code, and I had a total lockup that required a trip to the off switch. I read a lot of posts that suggested different drivers, different mice (mouses?), changing video cards, and on and on. I ran every antivirus and spyware program I could get my hands on, but nothing worked. Well I'm not a big believer in the the hype of diagnostic and repair programs, but this time one actually did what they claim. RegCure 1.5 found numerous problems in the registry, and when it fixed them, voila! The Mouse thawed out and system runs great. When you have tried everything you can think of, try running this on the registry.

XP Freeze, needs reboot.

Hello, I am not a computor expert, but after much searching regarding this problem I couldn't find any help at all. I have a Dell Inspiron 5150 and it appeared to me that after I had installed Adobe Flash, the cursor would freeze about 10 times/day and I had to reboot in order to use my laptop again. Even uninstalling had no effect. I had upgraded all drivers and cleaned and deleted all files and stuff I didn't need. Then I went to Microsoft.com and clicked on Help and Support. Then Get Guided Help for IE Crash Problems. I went through the entire testing process and a registry problem was corrected pertaining to Adobe. Anyway the cursor has not frozen now for 2 days and this is astonishing to me. I have not reinstalled AdobeFlash as I don't need it right now. But, just wanted to pass this along just in case it might help someone else.

Same Problem!!!

I mean the mouse cand be used...i know it is there, i can still click/right click on stuf or scroll...but it is no longer represented on screen by our beloved cursor. The cursor freezes on some place on the screen, and therefore we are now using an invisible mouse. That's the whole problem. I concluded it doesn't have ANYTHING to do with the hardware (the mouse you use). It's just a XP bug/error. It happened to me half an hour ago. I have a fresh XP SP2 (installed it 4 days ago)...and the error occured. It happened before and it happens now. I truly believe it is an undoccumented XP bug... And it is truly annoying! Once the thing happens your cursor gets stuck someplace on screen and you continue with an "invisible real mouse"...until next restart. Since it first happened I enabled the option to "Show the pointer position when I press the CTRL key". Just to really know where the mouse is..until restart.
Pls anybody experiencing this: post a reply here. I am really eager to find out what the thing is all about.

PS: i have P4 3 ghz on Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 :P. Although i DON'T THINK it has anything to do with the mobo. I'll think, for now, it is JUST a coincidence...

I've tried uninstalling the mouse drivers, reg cure, anti-virus, anti malware, anti-spamware...I am generally tech savy but this is the most annoying bug I've ever had to deal with...I am about ready to do a system recovery but don't like the idea of reinstalling everything!!! But if that is what it take that is what I'll do...I will make restore points before every software/hardware install just in case...anyone who can tell me how to fix this prob without a system recovery is a genious and will forever be etched in my mind as golden!!!

Smile Mouse freezes too often

I had similar problem and spent hours trying to find the answer. I have logitech USB mouse and of course I upgraded the driver when the problem started. I finally updated the mouse driver to HID windows XP driver and it seem to work. I have not have it frozen for six hours. That is a lot of time I think considering that I had to boot four to ten times a day because of *%$#@ mouse driver. I hope this helps.
