Two strange problems

Well, before I start I'd like to thank you guys in advance for reading this. Now, I've got two very strange problems. First of all, whenever I attempt to open a folder (double click, same old routine), instead of opening like it should, it opens Search. It's been doing this since I reinstalled XP a few weeks ago after a fatal hard drive crash. I've tried everything - folder options, Tweak UI, etc - and nothing helps. Any ideas?

The second problem is just as strange, and has been happening since the same time. When I attempt to play anything in WMP9, it plays merely a small center portion of the video. No amount of resizing and 'Fit to window to video', 'Fit video to window' helps. Again, any ideas?

Thanks again

The opening search window instead of the folder problem I had myself a while back - I remember that it was a simple registry change which fixed it - nut I can't for the life of me remember what it was - I'll have a hunt around to see if I saved it anywhere......

I can't help you with your first problem, but with the second one maybe I can.

First, are you sure you have all the right codecs? Second, I would suggest a different player because I've never liked WMP. I suggest the zoom player. www.inmatrix.com/files/zoomplayer_download.shtml

Generally I use my ATI file player that came with my card, but if you don't have that then the zoom player is great. You can get just about every codec you'll need from http://doa2.host.sk/
Go to the downloads, then get the kazaa codec pack. It also comes with another decent player. Hope that helps a bit! This is my first post here, so hopefully I didn't do anything wrong.
