CD & DVD drives lost?

Try this -
Uninstall all your cd/dvd copying/writing softwares.
Uninstall all your cd/dvd drives from device manager.
Follow these steps:-
1) Open windows command prompt and type regedit.
2) Click on the '+' sign before something written as HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
3) Dont' be afraid.
4) Click on the '+' sign before something written as SYSTEM
5) Click on the '+' sign before something written as CurrentControlSet
6) Click on the '+' sign before something written as Control
7) Click on the '+' sign before something written as Class
8) Click on something written exactly as
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
When you click on it, you will see somethings come out in the right
white area.
9) Find something written exactly as LowerFilters. Right click on this item and then select delete from the popup menu. Select 'Yes' from a windows that appears.
10) Find something written exactly as UpperFilters. Right click on this item and then select delete from the popup menu. Select 'Yes' from a windows that appears.
11) Close the Registry Editor windows by clicking on the Cross on the upper right side.
12) Restart your computer.
13) Windows will find new hardware and will install all your drives.
Reply again if you are succeeded or not.

Hi, I've been into the registry everything was as you said except there wasn't any UpperFilters ?? Anyway I thought I'd just do as you instructed and I deleted the LowerFilters and hey the drives are back

Thank you very much and thanks to Snooker who also pointed me in this direction.

DSL2007 =

Now about that blue screen on system restore........................... think I'll leave that until I actually need to use it!

Thanks again, don't know what the likes of me would do without the help from these forums!
