"regedit is not a valid Win32 application when installing

i tried to install a program from a disk. It was all going fine, but at the end, an error msg came up and read, "Regedit is not a valid Win32 application". another msg then came up from the installer which read, "could not open external program Regedit". Any ideas???

Well Banda, I believe we're having the same problem. I am trying to download kinetic 2 and I'm recieving the same message. I believe speedy15 would be able to help us if only he told us what program it was. I was told that we would have to do a repair installation to our computers. From what I understand the regedit is a win32 application and you should be albe to find it in your computer folders under system 32. If you do not find the regedit program in that filr you should do a repair installation to put regedit back in there; from what I understand. Please don't take my word for it though because I'd feel bad if i gave you bad information.Maybe someone could help us.

Search for "regedit.*" from your Windows directory and subdirectories! If you find anything else besides regedit.exe, regedit.chm, regedit.hlp, and regedit.exe-xxxxxxxx.pf, run an updated spyware remover (e.g. Lavasoft, Spybot, etc.). There was a malware (I forgot the exact name) that creates a fake regedit with the extension of com (i.e. regedit.com). This is loaded when regedit is invoked.

Ok so I ran a spyware remover and deleted what was there. Still no help. I asked cakewalk about the problem and they were the ones who told me i needed a repair installation. I don't know if its just me but that seems to be quite a process. Is there anything elso I can do?
