WIN XP: Built new box, all sound works, except windows sounds...

Motherboard: Soyo KT333 Dragon Platnium Edition

Has onboard sound with CMI 8738 chipset.

Installed XP Corp Edition.
All normal sounds work fine... MP3's, Video, etc, etc...

Only thing that doesn't work are the standard windows WAV's and the Windows VOICE. If I try to play the startup sound, or any other wav, I don't hear anything.

If I goto the volume control in the task bar, and adjust my main volume, I keep hearing loud beeps comming from the PC Speaker. Anyone experienced this before?

It sounds like you have the "no sounds" scheme on and it has muted all windows sounds.
Try this:
Go to Start -->Control Panel
Sounds and Audio Devices
Sounds tab
What sound scheme is selected?
If it is No Sounds just change it to something else.
Hit apply and you should be good to go.
