Page cannot be displayed

I get "page cannot be displayed" even though I am CLEARLY connected to our LAN.

I have connected to the router both wirelessly and with a network cable and still get the same message.

All the other pc's on the LAN work fine.

I have run Registry Mechanic & Spyware doctor and this has not fixed it.

On rare occasions it WILL work...but as I say, this is very rare.

I came accross this on someones machine before and I just formated the and re-installed. In this case I can't be bothered to do that as I am sure there is a solution.

Any ideas anyone?

By using Command Prompt, ping the router you are connected to. If that is ok then ping the website you are trying to connect to.

Hope this helps

It says it is connected fine in the taskbar but pings to other machines/the router/and websites don't work.

I can't connect to or see any other pc's on the network either.

Lets see what you got in your Network Conections.

Go to Control Panel > Network Connections.
There you might see one Icon and that is 'Local Area Connection.' But there might be a seond one. Disabling the other one usually works for me

That sounds like you are not connected at all to your network otherwise the ping would work and view of other PCs on the network would be seen. Check the name of your domain/workgroup after right-clicking 'My Computer' under 'Computer Name' tab. Then check the TCP/IP connections in 'My Network Places'.

Guys, thanks for your help, but I have tried all the obvious stuff. This is something deeper than just checking network connections etc.

I think something is fundamentaly wrong with the registry.

When I run registry mechanic and clean all entries, I restart my pc and the network works fine. HOWEVER...if I restart again the network doesn't work! How weird is that.

I have checked startup under msconfig and cant see anything there...
