Is your mouse PS2 or USB? - make of mouse? - mouse software installed? - what else are you able to do when the mouse freezes?, does it happen in all applications or only certain ones.........

my mouse is ps2. i reinstalled the software for it to see if that was the problem, and it wasnt. i think something is happening with the game, because the game will automatically close, and then my mouse wont work for about 10 minutes. after 10 minutes, my computer will lag for a second, beep, and then my mouse will start working again. i reinstalled the game, on top of formating my computer, and still it acts very strangely like this.

also, if i restart my computer before the mouse starts working, when windows loads up again, there will be this box called, WinHVC, and it has some controls about disabling the mouse and the keyboard.

EDIT: this only happens when i play this particular game...

If you can make a long distance phone call, you should call Blizzard tech support and inquire if this is a known problem with D2 or not.
www.blizzard.com has the contact info. They offer free tech support, but their number is *not* toll free.

well, i called blizzard, and basically what i got from them is that they suspected i had been exposed to some kind of virus from playing online. my mouse also started locking up all the time before i called them, and when i close down a specific svchost.exe process that begins to use a huge amount of memory, i get a message that the system is being shut down by the network administrator. and then, my system restarts. i scanned my hard drive for viruses with several free-dl programs, and they returned nothing. i have recently formated my computer as well. is it possible that i have some kind of virus that will be able to resist the format and virus scans?

it may be a boot-sector virus - but it seems strange that you said you got a message saying that your system is being shut down by the network administrator - this would suggest that either you are not logged in as the administrator, or someone else may have access to your PC.

I would suggest trying a USB mosue on your system if you can borrow/buy one, and see if you get the same problem, it might be a hardware problem with your PS2 port...
