The ethernet cable is plugged to the I/O plate as is the USB cable to modem which is how I have internet running. However, I wish to use my ethernet cable. "Ethernet contoller" is yellow flagged under Device Manager. I have tried many drivers but nothing seems to work. I must be missing something, although I feel I've tried everything...

Any ideas? Thanks

Intel Lan driver here at AOpen http://usa.aopen.com/products_downlo...ropDownProd=52

from select Model choose this one - MX4SGVI-4DN2; MX4SGVI-4DN2(P)

Set a System Restore Point before installing any drivers just in case
Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore – click radio button Create a restore point and follow instructions

Thanks bookworm, however it still isn't working. This is the process when I am reinstalling drivers...

- Double click "reinstall driver" on yellow flagged item.
- Install from specific location.
- Browse and point location to unzipped driver folder, then "Next".
- Computer thinks for a less than a second and states, "Cannot install this Hardware".

I have tried soo many drivers, I am beginning to think the driver is correct and I am missing another step or doing something else wrong.
I originally lost the driver due to formating and reinstalling WINXP. I have two computers which I have done this too (same WINXP cd) and both are displaying the identical problem with ethernet controller driver. I have had no problems reinstalling the other drivers (i.e. Audio and Video). Ethernet controller worked previous to computer format.

Thanks for your help so far. Any further suggestions would be much appreciated.

Ethernet controller driver needed

Hi again Barbara,
I downloaded the drivers & the windows diagnostics program from 3Com but my endeavors to install them failed. The diagnostics said that everything was installed successfully but in reality nothing had changed. Is there something that I'm missing or doing wrong?

Go back to Aopen and install the Intel Chipset driver - then Restart your comp - then install Lan driver again

"Go back to Aopen and install the Intel Chipset driver - then Restart your comp - then install Lan driver again"

??? I don't understand what you mean.... On the link that you gave me to 3Com there is no mention of Intel or Chipsets. What exactly are you referring to? What am I to open? And which is the Lan driver?

Okay, in Network Connections it says:

LAN or High Speed Internet
Local Area Connection 4
Network cable unplugged, F...
3Com Ethernet 10/100 PCI...

Now, I know that there isn't anything unplugged. So, what next?

look at the cable where it is plugged into the comp, there should be a light just below the cable to show it is working.

lets have a look at your system Get Everest / copy and paste the Computer – Summary section. Leave out the Debug –PCI section. It will show all the hardware as well as your board
