Unhappy PLEASE HELP ME!!! Wireless Internet Connection Issues

Hi, i am new to this so i might be a bit behind.
When i used to log onto windows, my wireless connection always used to automatically connect me to the internet. However, it now tries to connect but fails and tries again. I have waited for hours for it to connect but it dosnt and i have tried restarting my computer. I have been told to right click the "wireless connection" icon (bottom right) and then clicking "repair", it then retries connecting to the internet but stops when it says "renewing IP address" in the window that pops up. It dosnt change from this screen until you abort the repair by clicking the "X". Also, if i right click the "wireless connection" icon (bottom right), click "status", and then click on the tab named "support", under "address type" it says "invalid IP address".
Again please help me.
Thanks

Hi I think you need to restart the modem and the router in order to make you computer adquire the the info.....

Turn off your computer (wireless one)
turn off your modem and router (unplug them from the wall)
wait around 2 minutes....

Start turning on your modem. Wait until all lights stop blinking
Turn on your router
and finally turn on your computer...

See if you are able to connect this time...

Let us know

The modem is a little box where the router is connected from. If you have DSL or Cable connection; the MODEM is the little box with a bunch of blinking lights they sent to you in order for you to get connected to the internet. The router is connected to the modem and IT is the one that ampliffies the signal so you can get a wireless connection in your home...

THE MODEM should NOT be inside any computer, actually if you built your network at home you should now where the MODEM is... just look for another little box with lights that look very similiar to the router
