Network Setup Help Please

Hi,

I'm trying to setup a network to share files between my desktop PC and my laptop. Both are running Windows XP Pro, both are connected to a Linksys 4 port router. When I run the network setup wizard on the desktop machine it completes with no problem then prompts me to use my XP cd to setup the network on my laptop. When I do the same process on my laptop it says there is an error in completing the network setup wizard then asks me to restart the computer and try again. I'm selecting the exact same settings for both machines so I don't know what I'm doing wrong here. Any help would be apprieciated.

Btw, in the network setup wizard, it lists several options, I'm selecting the one that says "This computer connects directly to the internet and is not currently part of a network." There is no option for selecting a machine connected to a router, so I just chose this one because it seemed the most accurate.

You need to set the pc with internet connection to "This computer connects directly to the internet. The other computers on my network connect to the internet through this computer." and the second pc to "This computer connects to the internet through a residential gateway or through another computer on my network". That makes the Inet connected pc the gateway for the second pc. They will both need to be in the same workgroup.(MSHOME by default) To access the internet from pc #2 without pc #1 turned on you will need to connect your modem to your router.

PC #1 (with inet connection)

PC#2
