no sound
I have no sound on pc.Question mark at multimedia audio controller.Recently rebooted due to virus.Here are details from belarc.Operating System System Model

Now this is a long shot, but the last SiS board with no sound that I dealt with needed the modem drivers to be reinstalled, looking at the modem it says it's a CNR riser one, go back to Packard Bell and install the modem driver.
Don't forget the Restore Point just in case

I keep getting an error message when I try to download the sis 7012 audio driver.(-536870397) is the error number.

it's complicated, but use the SiS identifier to get correct Audio adapter

This does not apply to your sound card, bit a modem, but the instructions on the method of installation are what you need to know http://www.usr.com/support/s-voice/s...695_WinXP.html
just substitute your audio for the USRobotics and make a note of where you have downloaded the driver.

Try this
Check Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Properties / Audio Tab / Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio device is selected; something like modem line 0 playback might have been substituted for the proper audio device. Information by Jim Pivonka.

At wits end have tried all,now have no question marks but still no sound and sis 7012 installed in the right places.

What country was this computer bought in, can you look for a sticker on the tower, what model does it give, were checking an iMedia 1402 but does it show as an iMedia M series anywhere on the computer.
