no sound from my speakers

well the subject is self-explanatory. I never really minded it but now I want it to work. I tried fixing it myself but there's so much I can do. Everytime I wanna play something in my Windows Media it always say:
0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. You may encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

Your sound device is in use by another program. Quit other programs that may be using your sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Your sound device is not functioning properly. To troubleshoot the problem, see the Sound Troubleshooter in Windows Help or refer to your sound device's documentation.
You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000

or when I try when I try going to Volume Control it always says:
There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, Click Control Panel, clcik Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware.

Please Help Thanks

Pauline, What computer do you have? EXAMPLE- Dell,Compaq, or built? If you have a brand name, you can go to the Manufacturer's site and with your model and serial # find a driver for the device.Download it and install it. When you post a problem you have to give more information, even if you can't figure it out. Good luck Lenny...
