HELP! sigmatel audio device erased? now no sound!

I Have A Dell Dimension Dmo51 W/ Winxp Home Edition, I Went To My Device Manager And Noticed My Sigmatel Audio Device Was No Longer Listed, I Tried Going To The Dell Website To Re-download Driver But It Pauses When Creating Restore Point.i Went To My Add/remove Program And It's Still Listed There.i Ran The "belarc" Program And It's Not Listed In The Media Software.when I Finally Restarted The Computer, The Download Began To Run Just To Tell Me The Driver Is Not Supported By Windows Xp! It Came Pre-installed On This Computer. I Tried To See If Maybe There Is A Sound Card, But I Didn't See One, Is This What They Call A "on-board" Soundcard?

Do you mean the Dimension 5100, if not then post belarc report.

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case

Then go here to Dell, http://support.euro.dell.com/support...os=WW1&osl=EN#

install the Chipset, then RESTART your comp, and if need be install the audio driver again.

I'm not sure what driver you got from Dell as I can't find a Dimension DM051
your Service tag lists it as a Dimension 5150/E510
Your OS Windows Media Center Edition

Install the Chipset driver it is marked by Dell as an urgent download

No go, when it downloads, it freezes when creating a restore point. i tried deleting it from my control panel, but it freezes up. Maybe if theres a way of deleting sigmatel completly other than through the control panel? If so how?

Did you install the Chipset, see why from Intel

Check this /
Check Control Panel / Sound & Audio Devices / Properties / Audio Tab / Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio device is selected; something like modem line 0 playback might have been substituted for the proper audio device. Information by Jim Pivonka.

Now this is a long shot, but you have a voice modem installed, it may have some bearing on the audio, go here to Dell and install the driver http://support.euro.dell.com/support...=8609&libid=20

Don't forget the Restore Point

Yeah, i tried that already.But, i did notice that another program i have has "hijacked" the audio. It's called Tunebite, the problem with this is that it playes audio and video 4x faster than normal. So if I play audio/video on my windows media player it plays really fast but with no sound. I deleted Tunebite and tried reinstalling sigmatel audio device but it still froze when creating a restore point. I also tried system restore but it didn't work. Maybe a whack to the cpu with a sledge hammer might work!

This little programe will get rid of left i=over programes on your comp, you select issues for it to do it http://www.ccleaner.com/
It also has a programe uninstaller

ccleaner didn't help. the sigmatel audio program is still on the computer but it's not listed in device manager. oh ny the way ccleaner just froze when trying to uninstall.

I assume this a desktop? why not buy a sound card and enjoy your computer. It will be better than the integrated sound and a fair card isn't expensive. Lenny good luck

that is what i was thinking of doing but not sure of how/where to install, plus i still don't know what this "onboard" device means.what does "onboard" mean?
