Can't reinstall XP - Kernel Error

I am trying to reinstall XP but am unable to because I
get the following error:

Setup cannot upgrade due to third-party kernel.

system files (kernel) on your computer have been
modified. The Service Pack contains updated versions of
those files, which work to provide a stable environment
for your programs. Due to this modification, the Service
Pack will not be installed. For more information, see

This article is unavailable. I am using XP Home with SP1
included. Installing without SP1 is not an option. Any
help that does not include formatting would be much
appriciated.

I hate to break it to you, but I think thats going to require a reinstall.....if you have a second partition on your HDD then you can move all your essential files (docs, savefiles etc) there, to avoid having to burn everything to CD. If you don'y then I highly recommend partitioning your HDD next time you reinstall...
