Question xp crashing, parts dissapearing, and slowing down. . . help!

this problem has me stumped. . . i dont have a clue about what to do

THE PROB. IN A NUTSHELL
every time i get on my computer it will work fine for about 15 min. or so then it decides to slow down and crash (i dont get blue screened) the windows i have open at the time kind of work and some of my start bar menues dont work or dissappear i cannot right click anything i cannot use any of the deskto icons and i cant ctrl+alt+del at all i cant shutdown or restart windows so i am forced to use the reset button on my pc's tower

WHAT I HAVE DID TO TRY TO FIX IT
the first thing i thought of was spyware i did an update of spybot S&D and ran a scan . . . nothing then i thought virus so i used house call from trend micro and did a virus scan. . . . nothing again so then i went back to spyware and downloaded adaware and updated it . . . it found nothing! . . i didnt stop there though i went into START>RUN>MSCONFIG and and dissabled everything i didnt need this is all i have left starting up . .

atiptaxx (ATI Software)
zlclient (zone alarn free edition)
ctfmon
teatimer (spybot S&D)
adobe gamma loader
microsoft office

this is what i got rid of or allready did not have running

imjpmig
msmsgs
NeroCheck
tintsetp
tintsetp
attask
justched
winampa

once again that did not work. . . i am stumped and have no clue as what to do the only other think i have left to do is windows update i dont think it will fix my problem though (i wonder y i think that?)

ANY help at all is appreciated

cheers
jco1

PS below is a better discription of my problem

" it decides to slow down and crash"
one time i had taskman on and it registerd that nearly all the time my processor usage was 50 percent or more (i have a 2.8GHz P4 w/800Mhz FSB) (by the way as i am writhing this, it is screwing up again.)

"the windows i have open at the time kind of work"
my menue bar dosent work at all (i.e. file turns light gray ant that is it) i was going to try and get a screen cap of it but paint dosent want to work and i cant open up another web page

"some of my start bar menues dont work or dissappear"
for instance:
i click star >programs >then nothing because the programs menu dosent come up insted all i get the the windows gong sound when i click programs
some times i dont even get that all i get is everything above the programs tab everything from programs down dissapears

" i cannot right click anything i cannot use any of the deskto icons and i cant ctrl+alt+del at all i cant shutdown or restart windows"
again all i get is the gong

my setup is
P4 2.8 HT/800 MHz FSB
corsair DDR 400 XMS ram
Asus p4p800 delux mobo
ati radeon 9700 pro
WD 8MB buffer Cavair SE 120GB HDD (IDE)
XP Pro W/sp1 (i would check the exact build but i cant get to it beacuse thes stupid thing is screwing up

cheers

well that was no help, but i have all the windows updates and still no resolve

good luck

thanks for the thread i read it but it kind of scared me. someone mentiond that if taskmanager did not come up that would be bad, well for me it dosent come up unless i have it open at the time of the crash. humm i still want to think that it is spyware becuse when i g to do things occasionally i get registry changes from spyware but when i run a scan i dont get anything one of the popups was a "ITBARLAYOUT" the other i dont rember. i am getting these when there are no IEwindows open. tintsetp that was starting up in msconfig i checked it and it was a file of spyware i believe but adaware and spybot S&D did not find anything . . odd hua?

i will be getting the prosses shortly i am on another computer as of right now

cheers

i don't think that question was aimed at me, but i regulary d/l and install new programs (i have TOO many) so i dunno, but i installed AOL 9.0 (beta) which has been the cause of the problem in past but also removed and installed the normal version, but still the problem.

some badly written programs (this inclues many Betas) can cause software conflicts with other programs, the best solution i have found to solve this is by system restoring

hmm... well i did a repair install so it must be a program, but in another post, i was told to turn off system restore before doing anychecks for adware for example, also the repair install removed the sys. restore files - bugger!

oh well been ok for a day, we'll see

what it might be if it is a program conflict is aim+ it is not made by aol insted it is a program made by big-o software that clones aim and allows you to have multiple accounts open and takes the ads and the stuff like the stock ticker out

ok as of right now my cpu usage is jumping between 0 to 30%, PF usage is 246 MB,& i have 1/2 a gig of ram

applications running
winamp 3
IE

processes(that are useing the cpu):
teatimer.exe . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . jumping from 00-30% using 86,623K of memoryis being used
winamp3.exe. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 00-01% 17,348K of mem
lass.exe . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 00-01% 1,208K of mem
csrss.exe . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .00-01% 3,632K of mem
taskmgr.exe. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .00-01% 5,188K of mem
system idle process . . . . . . . . . . .69-99% 20K of memory

spybot search and destroys teatimer is using up the most of everything

this is getting frustrating
