Problems With Windows Explorer

I am having two problems with windows explorer.

The first is, when I try to open certain forlders, I get the error "Windows Explorer has caused en error and needs to close. We're sorry for the inconvenience" And I get the option to send or not to send an error report. This happens only when I try to open certain folders, such as a folder I have that is all videos, and a folder I have of different windows icons. Also, this doesn't happen only through windows explorer, I tried opening the videos going through Windows Media Player, and as soon as i clicked on the folder WMP shut down.

The second problem, which is more extremely annoying than anything else, is that, when I double click on a folder in Windows Explorer, it pops up a seperate window for search, and doesn't open the folder. to open it I have to right click on it and click open. This happens on any folder I try to open.

Is there anything I can do to fix these? If more information is needed let me know. Thanks for your halp!

an update: i noticed that when i right click on an object to open it, Search is bolded. is this normal? or is the thing thats bolded the thing that tells it what to do when you double click it? ( if i right click on a media file, play is bolded, which is what it does)Is there a way to change it back to open when you double click it?

Yes I have done that, and I have gone through all my startup applications and gotten rid of all the unneccesary ones. If I have to I will restore it back to fectory settings, but I don't want to if i don't have to. It's suck a hassle.
