Xp system restore computer dead!!!!help please

Hi.
I have just used the factory system restore disk on my computer after some git decided to be helpfull by putting a cracked copy of xp it.
The system restore seemed to go fine but now when it boots up, I just get the black screen of death with a curser in the top left corner.
I have done the factory restore before this guy did his thing, and it worked fine.
Is there anything i can do or am i screwed?
any help would be gratefully recieved.
thanks
dom

Well if you have the Recovery CDs you can go back to factory XP. Otherwise you can either request the CDs from the manufacturer or you will have to stick with a pirated XP (Not Recommended, but I use it pirated anyways... lol) So, you decide which option fits you better

If you have a system restore disk then it means your computer is a OEM system, therefore, it should have a Windows XP sticker on the side of the machine with the serial number........Now what you can do is, to us any other Windows XP CD (Pirated or not) and install the windows XP using your own serial number.

Cheers

Does this mean that it's probably my restore disk that is at fault?
I have had a closer look and it detects the drives but it trys to boot from a cdrom.
