explorer.exe error (0xc0000022) after login

Im having a problem with XP pro SP2 on anew laptop. When I start the laptop up it boots up fine but when I login with any account I get the error 'explorer.exe application failed 0xc0000022' 'click OK to terminate'. Im then offered a screen with the background desktop and no taskbar or icons.

I can run taskmgr fine with Ctrl + Alt + Del and run commands.

I have no system restore points so I cant restore it to an earlier time and I dont really want to reinstall or repair it just yet.

When you say "any" account, does that include any account that has admin rights?

You might want to try to run the SFC command with /SCANNOW parameter (i.e. sfc /scannow). I have seen the same problem being resolved with this command. You can read the descriptions of this command from Microsoft site at http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d....mspx?mfr=true

Since you are able to run commands open msconfig and uncheck everything under startup Tab... restart and see if the problem is gonne.

My Resolution To The Same Problem!

Hi Kuli50.

I have just registered to tell you what i am about to.
I read your post along with literally thousands of others yesterday when i came to the same problem that you did.

I must of tried a million and one things to correct it, the truth is i nearly gave up as i have lost my original XP Pro disc.

However, i did manage to find a XP Pro SP2 update which i burned on my laptop and extracted using the task manager to navigate to it on my desktop (the affected pc)

i did this and it fixed everything and i even got my XP theme back which was the original problem.

If you are interested you can download what i used from:

http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/xpsp2.html

I can't guarantee it will work but it is worth a try right?

Let Me Know
