Video Problems In WinXP-Pro When Launching Game

Hey how u doing? I got this problem in xp pro, this is the base xp no 64 no service packs. The problem is, when i launch select games, the monitor indicator goes yellow, indicating the video card is turned off or no signal, which is wierd because i hear sound perfectly fine. but then i alt-tab it comes back to windows and the monitor indicator goes back to green indicating there is a definite signal from the video card. Possibly new hardware having problems running legacy games but idk.
