Drivers for sound & ide bus master

I have recently reinstalled XP Professional, Service pack 1 & 2 onto my PC (used to have ME). I now have no sound and it is fairly obvious that I don't have the correct drivers. I tried loading the original Via 4 in 1 drivers, but no good.
From device manager (yellow question marks), I have copied the following details:

Multimedia controller driver instance id:
PCI\VEN_109E&DEV_0878&SUBSYS_6606107D&REV_11\3&61A AA01&0&71
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.
location PCI Slot 1 (PCI bus 0, device 14, function 1)

Multimedia video controller driver instance id:
PCI\VEN_109E&DEV_036E&SUBSYS_6606107D&REV_11\3&61A AA01&0&70
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.

PCI simple communications controller driver instance id:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1040&SUBSYS_10008086&REV_00\3&61A AA01&0&80
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.
location PCI Slot 3 (PCI bus 0, device 16, function 0)

Via bus master ide driver instance id:
ROOT\SCSIADAPTER\VIAIDE.INF&VIADSK
This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.
loctation unknown
device type scsi and raid controllers

multimedia audio controller driver instance id:
PCI\VEN_13F6&DEV_0111&SUBSYS_011113F6&REV_10\3&61A AA01&0&88
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.
location PCI Slot 4 (PCI bus 0, device 17, function 0)
device type Sound, video and game controllers

My PC details are:
Processor: AMD Athlon 1.3 Ghz
Main board type: Micro ATX
Power AGP card: 64MB GeForce 2 MX 400
I have another reference on a label in my original paperwork (this might be the motherboard?): 7AIA5
also: PN: 9577062001
and: Code:7CTAIA5/AIA5E_Label V.1_E

I have tried Via arena website to get the drivers but no luck so far.

This appears to be a Chaintech board, but no IDE drivers offered only the C-media audio, this is a Via chipset board, and a GeForce graphics card is installed, to be sure can you get Belarc http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
copy and paste the report in the thread

Hope this helps

This is a shot in the dark, Chaintec list no drivers at all for that model, but the manual gives C-Media 8738 as the audio.

Set a System Restore Point before installing just in case

then go here to install this driver http://members.driverguide.com/index...2&sm=h&jmd=and

get the CMI8738WinXP.zip Nov 19 2004

the Via 4 in 1 driver is here at VIA http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...D=1&CatID=1070

Hope this helps

Did you happen to read "High Definition Audio Bus" or something similar before when it all worked? If so, I've had the same problem on my Dell laptop after formatting and install Win Xp Sp2 from scratch.

There's a Microsoft HotFix out there that fixes exactly this problem for "High Definition Audio Buses" - I ran the hotfix, and TADAA, Windows recognized my sound card and I was able to install the actual driver.

If this sounds familiar, let me know and I'll track down which Microsoft KB hotfix fixes this.

Sound up and running -great

Bookworm:
The CMI driver worked a treat -thank you very much.
However, the Via 4 in 1 hasn't loaded, on rebooting the PC (after loading the file) I get an error msg: "Query registry content failed. Please contact manufacterer"

Umpalumpa:
"high definition audio bus" does not appear, nor can I remember it.

What exacally is wrong, no sound, it is difficult to know which driver you need to download without a specific problem. But this is the link to your Intel board, as a stsrter install No:5 Intel Chipset then RESTART your comp

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...4&submit=Go%21

SET A SYSTEM RESTORE POINT BEFORE INSTALLING JUST IN CASE

Hope this helps

I just got a new (old) Windows XP computer, and the sound was working perfectly. I installed a few programs (couldn't tell you what they were), might have clicked on some dialog boxes at some point, then listened to my music. Then the next day I opened WMP, but when I clicked on a song, it said it couldn't play any sound files. The sound control box says there are no audio devices installed, and in the device manager the multimedia audio controller has that yellow question mark. Where would I be able to find the driver for that?
