Copying Large File

I have a 6gb file on my c drive. When I try and copy it to my external 40GB usb hard drive I get an error message saying there is not enough disk space even when there was 12 GB free.

...I then formatted the drive so it has a full 40Gb on it and I still get that message. My c drive has 15 GB free. Is this an issue with clipboard space?

Are you copying from a NTFS drive to a FAT32 drive? If I am not mistaken, FAT32 can only support files up to 4G. You might want to convert from FAT32 to NTFS.
