Ok for starters, I'm running XP Pro with a cable modem (satellite cable ISP) that direct connects to the net. My ISP doesn't use any proxy servers, I don't use a router, and I have my XP firewall disabled when I'm trying to send files..
Whether I use Yahoo Messenger, Windows Messenger, ICQ, AIM, Trillian, whatever, I cannot SEND a file from my computer to ANY of my buddies on an instant messaging program. My friends can send files to me, no problems, on any of the services, but I can't send outgoing files from my computer.
Chat works fine, online gaming works fine, anything else I use that has my computer sending out info/data works fine, except file sending from an IM program. I have checked all the settings on my IM programs, and they are all configured properly. I have checked every single network/system/internet property I could find on my end, and everything looks to be set how it should be. None of my friends have troubles sending files back and forth with eachother, either, so it's nothing going on with my friends' connections/firewalls etc.
I posted about this on this at the microsoft community forums, and the only suggestion I've gotten was that my friends are blocking me with port restrictions, which can't be the case since they all can send back and forth to each other without problems.
Oh, and I never had a problem until I 1) bought a new computer that has XP and 2)got my new cable ISP... SO one or they other is the problem, and my cable company swears to this day that it's not them.. They give us direct access to the net without any restrictions. It's gotta be some setting in XP that I can't find, and I hope some smart person here can figure out what!!!
Thanks and please help me! It's sooooo frustrating.
