Desktop Shortcuts

All my desktop shortcuts are always highlighted since i installed a new game. kinda looks like this now

http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/8913/sampleul1.jpg

Also can take time to load my wallpaper on startup since i installed the game Im on a laptop with 256mb ram, sis 650 video card >_> pent 4.

This has happened once before when i had to reinstall windows XP home but cleared inself when i installed XP pro which is what i have now.
Some told me to "Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced tab > Performance Settings > Uncheck the box that says "Use drop shadows for icons on the desktop"." but that didn't do anything

Any ideas to help would be welcomed

If you have a desktop theme set up...
control panel
display
desktop theme
then on the clicked items on the right unclick desktop
that should bronk back your desktop color to previous property

What do you mean by "highlighted"?
Are you useing a full screen personal picture ?
Is it set to be centered? Are you familar with appearance settings ?
So what doesn't look right ?
Ok i will try to explain it better

This is what my desktop looks like -
http://img153.imageshack.us/img153/2403/desktopge6.jpg

There seems to be a blue border around all my shortcuts. Also when i starting windows up today my desktop loaded with a blue background that matched that colour around my shortcuts, then about 7 seconds later my wallpaper appeared like it was going over the blue background but some of the blue remain around the shortcuts ¬_¬

I also found out that i can change the colour around my desktops shortcuts by changing the colour in desktop properties like this..

and
http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/5267/picture3gq3.jpg

I know the basics of appearance settings. They all seem to be set on default settings except my desktop background

Uhh i just noticed that when i go onto desktop properties then screensaver or settings it doesn't notice my background when it shows the example, it just shows the colour my desktop is set to. Umm when i mean by is this ._.

I've tried switching background but the problem still remains.

I hope i gave better information this time -_-
