Question unlock file properties

When I burn images on CDs (with Roxio CD Creator) they are automatically locked. When I right click on any of these locked files, select Properties and uncheck the "read only" box I get an "error applying attributes" message: "error occurred applying attributes to the file: ........" If I clicj "ignore", "retry" it still does not unlock the file. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

What version of CD Creator do you have. There are known issues between XP and any version before 5.1.

the files you are trying to change the attributes - are they already burned to your CD?

locked file attributes

I am using Roxio CD Creator vers. 5.0. The files are burned onto a CD. I just read something in the Gateway help section that I think answers my question. It says that I have to open each file before the properties can be changed (locked-unlocked). I was trying to do it while the files resided on the CD.

Does this seem right? I still think its a hassle. I wil l have hundreds of image files that I will want to batch unlock, that's a lot of opening!

you shouldn't be able to change the attributes of a file that's already been burned to a CD, unless it is a CD-RW. If they are infact on a CD-R, then of course the properties will be read only, as you can't write the file to the CD again, because it would involve actually writing to the CD again(granted you can have multiple sessions on a CD-R, but you still won't be able to change a file that's on the CD. you would have to copy it to your hard drive first to change it, but after being burned to a CD-R again, the attributes will ALWAYS be changed to read only.)

I got it. Actually, I already knew that but it just didn't click in my neural processor until you so nicely explained it! Thanks!
