slipstream xpsp2

hello

i have been fooling with trying to get sfc /scannow to run for months. i made myself a xpsp slipstream cd (using autostream)
like all the techs said to do , well it still asks for the xp cd which is already in( my cdrom drive is working fine).

i got the windows sourcepath set at E:\ and windowsNT sourcepath set at E:\ is this right or should they be e:\ or maybe e:\1386?
i have the ServicePackSourcePath at c:\windows\ServicePackFiles and the ServicePackCache at
c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\servicePackCache , but there is no ServicePackCache folder when i open ServicePackFiles theres a 1386 folder.
my dllcache folder is at c:\windows\system32 is this the right place?

well help me if you can
thanks
larry

Hey Larry,

Auto Streamer is a neat program and it's hard to miss anything...maybe some visual help could clear things out for you...check out the following link:

thanks for your reply , sure do appreciate it. thats the site i used for making my xpcd , but scf /scannow still asks for my xpcd. i was thinking
that maybe servicepackcachepath or servicepacksourcepath should be change to E:\ in regedit , or both. am i right?
thanks

NO NO NO....just place the Windows XP CD in to the E:\ Drive and then direct the program where SP2 file and finally, you need to provide a path where to save the final ISO file, that's all.

Hey Larry,

No you don't need to change the source path to the Service pack 2.....basically the second step is telling the software "where" the source of the service pack 2 is.....(make sure it is the EXE file, as shown in the screen shot), the software "Autostreamer" will expand the service pack 2 and then dump in the proper location on the 1386 folder along with the rest of the Windows XP files creating XP with service pack 2.....(the ISO file)....if you are still getting the error when using the newly created software then something is a MISS....If you can provide few screen shot of your process(may have to do the whole thing all over though).

Cheers

If you want something really easy with alot more features try nlite. I have a custom install cd made up for each machine and its idiot proof. I'm living proof.

i guess i will have to start all over , i done just like the instructions said
and thought it worked but guess not. about the servicePack Sourepath ,
mine is pointing to c:\windows\ServicePackFiles (got a i386 folder inside
servicepackfiles folder) wouldnt sfc /scannow look for it here instead of my e:\?
will try to figure out how to send a screeshot today.

Hi Harley ,,, I think there is a misunderstanding here , What Snowmonkey is telling you is how to slipstream your operating system with service pack 2 , Though it seem what you really want is how to perform system file checker sfc /scannow without having to place your xp cd disk in the cd rom drive , is this correct ? You want to perform sfc /scannow without having to place your xp disk ?

Lots of confusion here

The way I read it is that he has already slipstreamed SP2 & created the new XP SP2 CD.

Now when he runs "SFC /scannow" when it finds a file it wants to replace it asks him for his windows CD but it won't accept the new slipstreamed one that he created

hello

i done the xpsp2 slipstream deal (using autostream) and burned a cd so i could run sfc /scannow but it still asks for the xp home cd when i try to run sfc /scannow.
i got: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio n\Setup\ServicePackSourcePath set to c:\windows\ServicePackFiles

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrectVersio n\
Setup\SourceParth set to E:\

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\
CurrentVersion\SourcePath set to E:\

is this right or should HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio n\
Setup\ServicePackSourcePath be pointing to E:\ also?

help me if you can
thanks much
harley

PS: i have done the slipstream deal three times now using autostreamer
and doing it just like instructions says. (3 cds , none work but look right)

Assuming C: is your system root drive and E is a separate drive ? Then do the following , You will need to get your XP CD and locate the folder called:

I386 >>> just to clear this folder name its i386

Now just copy this folder onto your E drive , Then go to >>>

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Setup

Now make the changing in the following area’s

ServicePackCachePath >>> c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\ServicePackCache

This above is the default location and your is probably set that way already , If so ? Just then make the next 2 changes below

ServicePackSourcePath >>> E:\

SourcePath >>> E:\

That’s it , Give it a try now and let me know

thanks for your reply. done everthing that you said and it still asks for the xpcd to get dll files (cd already in). got the windowsNT sourcepath on E:\ also.

when i open the FP40ext .inf file its got:
WK_CD_NAME=" Windows XP Professional CD_ROM"and
SP_CD_NAME = "WINDOWS XP Professional ServicePack 2 CD"
i got xp home edition sp2 , not professional , has this got anything to do with sfc /scannow?

thanks again

thanks for your reply , i sure do appreciate it. would like to try that iso buster deal , but this old man does not have the bucks right now.
i have already made three CDs using autostream and they seem to alright.
below is a question i sent to a mvp at microsoftnews group a while back ,
he said that when i made the slipstream CD it turn my system into xp pro and sfc /scannow would never work . would you take a look and tell me what you think?
any help would be appreciated
thanks
harley

i have been trying for months to run sfc /scannow on my pc.
well i have made myself a slipstreamed xpsp2 (using autostream)and copied
the I386 folder from cd to c:\WINDOWS\
ServicePackFiles folder. no matter what i set windows sourcepath ,
windowsNTSourcepath , ServicePackSourcePath ,
or ServicePackCachePath to it still asks for the cd (cd-rom drive is working).
i have tried e:\ (cd-rom drive) on everything and c:\ (HDD) still no luck.
in my c:\WINDOWS\inf folder i got a " FP40 ext.inf file" that when i open
its got "WK_CD_NAME=" Windows xp Professional cd_rom" and SP_CD_NAME =
"WINDOWS XP professional servicepack 2 cd" if i changed professional to home
(which is what i got) would that help me to run my sfc /scannow?
would it hurt anything?
