Your computer should be able to boot from a CD.

Put your XP CD into the CDROM, restart the computer and follow the on screen prompts. Don't forget to press any key when you see the 'Press Any Key' prompt.

Delete all partitions, create a new partition, or two (I would advise two as a minimum - one for your OS and one for your data), format the partitions and then install XP on C:\. Just follow the on screen prompts.

I would advise that you print the page out of the website that I gave you earlier, as a source of reference. If you do not have access to a printer, ask a friend to print the page out for you, or go to a library/Internet Cafe, browse to the website and use their printing services.

If you can't boot from CDROM, please post back, as I believe your computer skills are rather limited. Please do not take this as an insult; we all have to start somewhere, and changing the booting sequence may be rather daunting.

Let us know how you get on.

Are you using a genuine hologramed XP CD with a genuine M$ Product Key? What brand computer are you using? A Sony, by any chance?

xp hologram disc

Where did you get the computer from? Is it a desktop or a laptop? Is there a manufacturers name or Product Key sticker on it anywhere?

If it is a brand computer, do you have Restore/Recovery disks?

Google shows nothing for the error code cdr:code5, however, it does for cd:code 5.
