Security Update for XP poser?

Hi

Ive just been checking what programs I have on my PC as I want to free up some space and Ive come across 32 security updates each measuring 243MB! These have obviously been installed automatically but are they necessary as they are eating serious disk space?

Anyone have any tips or advice

Cheers
