Got a new number to XP, still complaining

Hi!
I updated the number on a friends XP-Pro with a new -legal- OEM XP-pro.
using the procedures described in: http://www.petri.co.il/change_the_se...windows_xp.htm

It worked like charm, now he can update the system via MS-update. all well? NO!

At every boot the system still complaining of "fake software, why not buy a legit copy of Windows xp?".

Well, we just did!

What can we do?
Regards
Berra

Hey ... Did you by chance use this legit OEM xp pro version license keys on a different computer prior to this computer ? OEM is branded on the computer it gets used on ( one computer only ), What I would try now is either a repair install of a fresh clean install , Repair will keep all your data intact , a clean is a fresh new start , If after all that and you still have this problem ? Then go back to the place where you got it from and get some answers

Have a view at this webite below

The procedures described in: http://www.petri.co.il/change_the_se...windows_xp.htm

only "Change The Product Licence" to get rid of the Microsoft Copyright Protection what you would have to do is do a repair function. this will replace all %systemroot%\ files and leave all user data intact. This means you will be able to input the new licence at the setup stage witch means you wont get the Microsoft Copyright Protection pop-up.
