This won't fix your current problem but in the future whenever you will make a change like installing a new program you could turn restore off then on.

This remedy seems to have helped others with the same problem. Unfortunately you are not alone in this.

I now use CD-RW's to image my system partition before doing anything new and can restore the image in under 10 minutes and no more coasters.

augie,

how much disk space in terms of % would be saved when you disable system restore?

how do you image your system partition CD-RW? Could you elaborate further on the procedure? i have one 40GB HDD and currently has 15GB used space.

Thanks,
Lex

Hi Lex,

I currently have 1.7 gigs, I think. I had to infer that by unhiding my folders, add up the various folder sizes and subtract from the total shown in properties. So in your case it could be as large as 4.8 gigs if your drive is not partitioned. M

As for imaging here's A good tutorial using your available resources like xcopy. However you have to dual boot Otherwise you'll need something like Norton's ghost. There are other cheaper progs out there, but I haven't tried any.

Someune else will be around that has some experience with other imaging S/W. Oh, or you could get a cheap second drive for the second OS.

<edit>Actually, go to performance and maintenance and click system restore top left, then click properties on the left of the screen. Default is 12%. Your restore file could be as high as 4.8 gigs.
