network problems

I am trying to set up a network in my home. My host computer (WindowsXP home edition with Netgear Rp614 router) works fine but when I try to network to a Toshiba laptop 2060cds with WindowsXP pro installed, using a Netgear ehernet PCMCIA card (which states on the box that it is compatible with WindowsXP), the laptop freezes every time - cannot proceed any further. It would be very much appreciated if someone has a solution to this?

Question

I would check Netgears site to see if there is a setting in the router you may be overlloking. May need to add client, MAC address or something.
