MS Sound Recorder Not Working

Hi, This is my first post and I hope I am doing it right.

My MS Sound Recorder is not working. The mic I am using came with the computer I bought a few years ago that came with IE 5.50, Windows 95.

Now, I am using:

IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gd.r 050301_1519
Windows XP Home Edition

Sound Recorder Ver 5.1-(build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr. 050301-1519:Service Pack 2)
PCM 8.000 kHz, 8 Bit, Mono

My sound card works just fine with music, videos, websites with sound, etc.

I would appreciate any ideas on how to fix the problem. I want to send a voice message in Outlook Express Email .

Thank you,

Mandy Sue

Does the recorder actually record the file and can it be played back?
i.e. Is your problem that when you play the file, you only hear silence. If so i would get a new mic/ try a different mic compatible with win xp.

Thank you,Vish, for your response. I was trying to be so careful to get in all the information about the computer that I failed to say that when I try to record, the green line remains static... no indication that the sound is actually recording.

I will check on a new mic. Thanks again.

Double click the volume icon in the Taskbar (near the clock). If the microphone control isn't showing, click on Options and then on Properties, check the box for "microphone," click OK. Then make sure the microphone "mute" box isn't checked.
