Smile XP Pro can be a pain. somewhere

I have made a "clean" upgrade of XP Pro from WN98. Here is the problem. When I first log on to Internet Explorer, it takes about 30 seconds to appear on the monitor, than it's fine.. I can log off IE and and wait a couple seconds and IE will appear in a second or quicker. I have Cox cable with a PCX DOCSiS (PCX 2200) cable modem, with a 32 bit Ethernet FA311 PCI adapter. It all started when I did the XP upgrade. Any ideas here?

how much ram do you have? what speed processor do you have? how many things do you have running in the background(ie anti virus, firewall, etc)?

hereis the answer

I have 350 megahertz AMD K6-2 processor, and 252 megabytes memory. I know this is low and I'm thinking about buying a new computer.

while 256 MB RAM should be plenty for XP(128 is minimum) the your processor is a bit on the slow side(althougha 233 is the minimum) if you have a lot of things that start up with the computer, or you try to open IE before the comptuer has completly booted up, that may be the cause of the slow initial response time. try this: next time you restart your computer, allow it to boot up, and wait until the hard drive access light has stopped blinking frequently. Next, try opening IE. if it loads up fairly quickly, we know why it took so long previously. otherwise, it could be other things like driver compatibly issues, memory issues(ie, bad sticks of ram), other hardware issues...you mentioned that you upgraded from win 98, so not all the hardware you have on your computer will be comaptible with XP, which can cause a host of problems.

good luck,
