desktop background

currently running XP Media Edition 2002 sp2

Upon start-up and shut-down, my desktop begins with the "image" I have saved as desktop background for about 10 seconds, then changes to a "color" when the full desktop with icons appears.

The desktop background, positions, and browse features are frozen.

I can only change the color. If I right click on any image I may chose to be my background, it will show-up for the stated 10 seconds upon start-up and shut-down, then change to whatever color has been previously choosen as the background.

I have done malware scans for any issues, and none are present.

What to do?

In Display Properties, go to the Desktop tab and click on the Customize Desktop button. Go to the Web tab. Uncheck everything there, click OK.

See if that will allow you to change the background picture.

I am having the same problem but Miz advise is not working. Is there another way to fix it....

Go to Kelly's Korner, scroll down to line 142 and in the right-hand column, click on "Allow Background Wallpaper Changes" to download a small .reg file.

Once you have it saved to the hard drive, run it according to the instructions at the top of the Kelly's Korner page.

If your antivirus objects, ignore it. The files from Kelly's Korner are safe.
