I tried to test directsound in DXDiag.exe it says

File vinyl97.sys is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL).U can get a by WHQL Signed Driver possibly through the manufacturer of the hardware.
DirectSound-test results: Error in step 19 (Usercontrole of software): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (Error code)

It could be a little bit bad translated (main language is dutch)

I also got at this program (Start => Run => devmgmt.msc) no yellow !

So driver is working i guess.

It's not showing the make of your comp, and the report shows a Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combp driver , your Asus A7V8X-X board has a Soundmax onboard audio - go here http://support.asus.com.tw/download/...Language=en-us

Your audio plugs must be on the I/O plate for this driver to work, if you use an expansion slot then you have a Sound Card installed, see here, click the image to focus

need the make and model or Get Belarc, copy and paste the report, omit the Software section, it gives Product Codes for your OS and the Windows Critical Updates.

G'day, I've been looking through the thread, and noticed you were able to assist a few people. I was wondering if you could do the same for me.

I ran the Belarc Advisor and got the results:
Trouble is, I noticed there was no Multimedia driver, which is weird, because prior to the reformat, there was sound and everything.

your Asus board has realtek High Definition audio go here http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

Your audio plugs must be on the I/O plate for this driver to work, if you use an expansion
slot then you have a Sound Card installed, see here, click the image to focus
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

Tick I accept the above – wait till site resets then click Next

Download the (Executable file) save to desktop, double click downloaded file on desktop to install

The site is slow

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case

Start / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a Restore point and follow instructions
