Angry XP crashes and reboots 5% into burning a CD

XP Home SP1
Athlon 1000, KinetiZ 7B, 256MB Ram
Samsung CD-R/RW SW408 B

When burning a CD, either with NERO 5.5.8.0
or the internal XP burning service, the system will
reboot (without blue screen or anything) after a
few seconds or minutes (depends) of burning.
This must be caused by some kind of software
problem, as it worked perfectly the first weeks
after installing xp. Of cause there is a lot to choose from
now: Office, CorelDraw, DivX, Kazaa, Norton Internet Security
(although that already was installed when burning
still worked), Acrobat, Quicktime, and a lot of small
utilities.

Any Ideas? I thought some installer might have changed
my DMA settings - but I guess XP doesn't use DMA?
- I couldn't find it...

Igor

Hi Igor, do you have Roxio's easy CD creator installed? I've heard that it creates problems with other burning sortware not being able to run.

Cool CD Recording in XP

According to M$'s book "XP Inside/Out" you MUST disable the imbedded recording software if your installing any third party burning software-----PERIOD!

just a note, because dick471 is probably right, but the second half of your first post: yes, XP uses DMA. if you go to your device manager, and select the IDE controller, not the drive, you will find the DMA settings. but, i find that most times, XP usually has "DMA if available" selected. But it never fails, especially with a drive that is not practically brand new, that it will bump it back to PIO mode.
