Well that complicates things. If I was in your position I would stick my old video card in, uninstall the drivers as I mentioned above, then put my normal video card back in and take it from there...I suppose having extra hardware sitting around is a luxury of sorts, but on the off chance that you have access to *any* spare video card, now may be the time to use it.
On the other hand, it's awfully strange that running it in safe mode didn't set the resolution to something more normal (and ugly)...are you sure you actually booted in safe mode? You're running blind, after all...
Also, if there's a spare monitor around that you can use you might try that...who knows, maybe your monitor's gone AWOL.
Just some more suggestions...hope they help. If/When you get it fixed, I'd appreciate if you'd let me know what you did, for future reference.
