Strange Sound Problem

First off, sorry if this isn't in the right forum, but I see quite a few other threads asking about sound problems, so I figured I would ask here. I don't have any problems with my sound itself, but very strangely, when I plug headphones into the headphones slot, the music is still played from my speakers. Yet also from the headphones. How can this be? I've had this PC for awhile, but never tried to do it before. So I'm just aware of this now. Never had a problem like this on my last PC. I'm not an expert on sound cards, so there could be something really easy I'm missing but just don't see it. I'd really prefer the sound to only come out of the headphones when they are plugged in, like it normally should be. Anyone have any ideas?
