Nothing opens

This laptop is Aspire 3610. I think they run RegscrubXP and maybe deleted something.

Lets say I'm trying to open Mozilla Firefox or Yahoo Messenger I get File Download - Security Warning button. One that asks for Open, Save or Cancel.

This goes to all programs, plus for some other programs ask

What do you want to do?

Use the web service to find the appropriate program?

Select the program from a list.

Is there a way to fix this?
I wanted to do System Restore but they don't have the cds for this.

If more info is needed, let me know. Thanks a million =)

It sounds like it's lost the file associations.

Click Here to open a Doug Knox page with links to download a number of file association fixes.

Get the last one on the list first..."ZIP Folder Association Fix"...so you can unzip the others. Read the directions at the top of the page.

Then download the fix for "lnk" which should fix the shortcuts.

If you find other things that don't open, go back to that page, download, unzip and run the appropriate fix.
