installing windows 2000

hi guys!!
i have windows xp on my system. i want to change that to windows 2000 server. whenever i try to install windows 2000, XP seems to disable my setup. i also tried clean installing.i restarted my system and i tried going to the bootmenu and selected booting from the cd rom.even then, it loads the XP instead of booting from the cd rom. i have tried installing windows 2000 professional, windows 2000 server etc etc . no matter what i do, my XP doesnt allow any other OS installation on my system. any help in this regard would be great. thanks in advance.

Is it possible that ur using a set-up disc which doesn't have boot files on it? This would explain the reason why its ignoring the disc. Try using a Windows 98 SE floppy start-up floppy and boot from that, then run the set-up program. You should find it loads. Happy Days!

If you have the CD set to boot before the hard drive in the BIOS, then I would suspect a hardware problem with your drive. If you have the option, change CD drives and see if that corrects it.

I had a similar problem recently and it was the drive.
