Windows Media Player problem

I have WMP 9 installed under the latest XP, and today when I clicked on "Play All" in My Music it scanned the whole PC to look for media files. It has never done this before and it doesn't on my laptop and never has. Every time I go to My Music it now does this on the big PC. I even installed WMP 11 on both. The laptop works fine but the big machine still has the problem. Any ideas please?
