Remote Desktop Connection Problem

Hi,

I am new here but i really need help with my problem. I have been trying for a 2 weeks and couldnt figure it out.

At home i have a PC with windows xp pro and cable internet. I also have a laptop with windows xp pro and i connect to the net with wireless. I configured my PC to allow connection through remote desktop and i can log on it fine with my laptop when i am at home using my wireless. There is no problems at all with this.

When i go to work (work PC has windows xp pro) on the other hand and try to connect to my home PC using remote desktop I get the follwoing error message:

The client could not connect to the remote computer (bla bla bla...)

I would appreciate it if some one can help me out with this.

Thanks.

Do you have a router? Is port 3389 open and forwarded to the correct IP?

The firewall on the machine may prevent the connection from happening, you must allow the ports to allow incoming/outgoing tcp connection before attempting to reconnect. The client should tell you what port it uses to connect to the server, you have to enable that port on the server machine before you connect.

Hope it helps,
Goodluck

Thumbs up

Did you also enable the receiving computer with windows OS to allow remote connections to that computer????

To check that do the following:

- Right click MY COMPUTER icon and select PROPERTIES in the menu.

- Select REMOTE tab in SYSTEMS PROPERTIES window.

- In the REMOTE window, ensure that both options are ticked and click OK.

That will then allow you to use Remote Desktop to that PC with a static IP ADDRESS and FIREWALL port open to allow connection.
