windows media player

wondering if anyone can offer some advice.
when i try to burn music, the burn stops suddenly, and a notice appears saying to clean disc or try another brand of disc.
i have tried different makes but with only the odd successful burn.
lately the c.d tray only comes out on start up.
i have tried re-installing wmp but the problem continues.

any advice ??
